The TMC Family Support Center offers many classes and services to help prepare you for childbirth and parenting.
A three-week class series that provides parents with an overview of what to expect during childbirth, and options regarding labor, birth and postpartum. You’ll gain the knowledge you need to be an active participant in your baby’s birth and allow practice of the skills that can help make this experience the wonderful memory it is meant to be. Included in this course is a tour of Tucson Medical Center’s Labor & Delivery area. We recommend attending this series during the seventh month of pregnancy. Please bring two pillows and a blanket to class. Classes fill quickly, so register early! Fee: $60
For newly expectant parents – guidance on the healthiest pregnancy possible. Learn about nutrition, exercise, fetal development, and physical and emotional changes. Explore how to have a more comfortable and safe pregnancy. Those in their first trimester of pregnancy are encouraged to attend. A tour of TMC’s Labor & Delivery area is included. Sunday 4-6:30 p.m. Fee: FREE
A special weekend class designed for busy expectant parents. This class is conveniently offered in the afternoons over the weekend. The curriculum is the same as the traditional three-week series, but offered in a more accelerated time frame. The class offers the knowledge you need to be an active participant in your baby’s birth as well as teaching helpful coping skills and comfort measures. A tour of TMC’s Labor & Delivery area is included in this class. Please bring two pillows and a blanket to class. Saturday & Sunday 1-5 p.m. Fee: $60
A special one-day Preparation for Childbirth Class designed for busy parents. This fast-paced class will prepare soon-to-be parents for the labor and birth process as well as offer helpful coping skills and comfort measures. A tour of TMC’s Labor & Delivery area is included. Please bring two pillows and a blanket to class. Saturday or Sunday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Fee: $60
This three-week class focuses on expectant parents planning a natural birth. In addition to the basic elements of the other childbirth series, this class provides specific comfort and coaching techniques for each stage of labor. Breathing, visualization, relaxation and other resources are emphasized and practiced to empower expectant moms and give them confidence as they prepare for labor, delivery and postpartum. Please bring two pillows and a blanket to class. A tour of TMC’s Labor & Delivery area is included. Saturday 8:30 a.m.–noon. Fee: $60
A refresher class for couples who are expecting their second child. This class includes a specially prepared dinner for two! This one-night class is perfect for active couples who need a break at the end of their busy week. We’ll provide updates on issues that may have changed since you last gave birth and refresh the knowledge and skills that you’ve previously learned. A tour of TMC’s Labor & Delivery area is included. Please bring two pillows and a blanket to class. Friday 6-9. Fee: $30
This class provides information and specific techniques to build mother’s confidence in preparation for a vaginal birth after cesarean delivery. Specific strategies are discussed for use during the pregnancy, labor and delivery to improve comfort and progression of labor in a VBAC birth. Discussion includes issues related to VBAC, and preparation for family-centered birth, either vaginal or cesarean. Tuesday 6:30-9 p.m. Fee: $25
A one-night class is for families who have completed Preparation for Childbirth. This class explores extensive coping, breathing and relaxation techniques for labor, including breathing patterns, massage, visualization, labor aids and coaching skills. Please bring two pillows and a blanket to class. Tuesday 6:30-9 p.m. Fee: $25
Join other soon-to-be parents in this one-night class and learn the basics of newborn care. Topics covered are newborn appearance, feeding, bathing, diapering, umbilical-cord care, when to call your health care provider and general safety. Wednesday 6:30-9 p.m. Fee: $25
This special 90-minute class is for children expecting a new baby brother or sister. Hands-on play introduces siblings to their new role as big brother or big sister. This class also includes safety, holding and diapering, and feelings evoked by the introduction of a new baby into the family. A tour of the area where Mommy will be having the baby is also included. Please bring a stuffed animal or doll for diapering. Children must be between the ages of 3 and 11. Saturday 9:30-11 a.m. Fee: $15 per child.
This class is taught by Tucson Medical Center registered nurses who are internationally board-certified lactation consultants (IBCLC) and specialize in advising mothers on effective techniques for successful and continuous breastfeeding. The class is for those who want more information about breastfeeding and need the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful. Also included are ways your partner can help. Covered are basic breastfeeding positions, helping your baby latch on, how to tell if feedings are going well, and how to balance working and breastfeeding. This class is taken before the birth of your baby. Wednesday 6:30-9 p.m. Fee: $25 per couple

C.A.P.P. is for families in need of a car seat. Class instructors are certified car seat technicians who advise you how to properly install a car seat in your vehicle. Included in the price of the class is an age- and weight-appropriate car seat. Limited to one car seat per family. English or Spanish instruction available Sunday, 9-11 a.m. Fee: $35
These tours are designed to help you get comfortable with the environment where you will give birth and an opportunity to ask questions regarding the hospital experience. Designed to relieve prenatal jitters, our group tours will lead you through the Labor & Delivery area and the Mother/Baby units. No pre-registration is necessary. Photo identification is required for all adults. Please arrive early and check in at the Southeast Entrance Information Desk. Sunday at 4 p.m.
