Cardiac Diagnostic Testing

Cardiac Diagnostic Testing Packages

TMC Cardiology Services provides comprehensive diagnostic procedures offering the best care in the region. Package plans including physician interpretation, are available for the following procedures:

Echocardiogram

This ultrasound procedure examines the heart determining its size, and detects possible vascular problems, blood clots or tumors.

  • No special preparation is needed for this 30-to 60-minute procedure.
  • A cardiologist (heart specialist) will interpret the test and a report will be sent to the ordering physician.

Exercise Stress Echo

This test checks for changes in the heart before and after exercise.

  • If you are taking any medications for your heart or blood pressure, check with your doctor to see if you should discontinue the medication before the procedure.
  • Do not eat, drink or smoke 4 hours before the procedure, only small sips of water if necessary.
  • Wear comfortable clothing for the procedure, which takes about 60 minutes.
  • The cardiologist will provide results at the end of the test.

Exercise Stress Test (Treadmill)

This test is used to help determine how the heart works during exercise on the treadmill. If you are taking any medications for your heart or blood pressure, check with your doctor to see if you should discontinue the medication before the procedure.

  • Do not eat, drink or smoke 4 hours before the procedure, only small sips of water if necessary.
  • Wear comfortable clothing for this 45-minute procedure.
  • The cardiologist will provide results at the end of the test.

Holter Monitoring

A Holter monitor provides a digital recording of every heart beat and is most frequently ordered to be worn for 24 hours.

  • Chests should be free of lotion, cream or oils, which interfere with the recording.
  • Wear a loose-fitting shirt that buttons down the front, making it easier to change clothing while the recorder is worn.
  • Allow about 20 minutes for the Holter monitor to be applied.
  • The cardiologist reviews the study and a report is sent to the ordering physician typically within 2 to 3 days.

Tilt Table Testing

The Tilt Table test is performed to help diagnose syncope (black out or fainting spells) or episodes of extreme dizziness. Individuals lie on a table with safety straps placed around the chest and legs. At the end of the procedure the table will be tilted (head up) and you will stand on a platform.

  • Do not eat for 4 hours before the test and only small sips of water if necessary.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and arrange to have someone drive you home after the test.
  • The cardiologist will provide results at the end of the test.
