Cardiac Rehabilitation

TMC Cardiac Rehabilitation at El Dorado Health Campus

We can help those with heart disease return to an active life and reduce their risk of further cardiac problems. A strong emphasis is placed on making lifestyle changes that affect long-term cardiovascular health. Our outpatient programs can benefit those who have suffered a heart attack within the last year, had coronary artery bypass surgery, suffer from chest pains, had heart valve repair or replacement, had angioplasty or stent placement, and those who have received a heart or heart/lung transplant.

Inpatient Care at Tucson Medical Center

Cardiac rehabilitation begins in the hospital, once you are recovering from the acute phase of your illness. Our staff provides you with an individually tailored and monitored exercise program, information about risk factors, education, counseling and a plan for home exercise and activities.

Post-Hospital Care Program

As you enter the outpatient program, expert staff members create a personal prescribed plan, which sets exercise goals and identifies ways to modify risk factors. Lifestyle changes are an integral part in the success of post-hospital care.

Participants in the program:
  • Attend one-hour exercise sessions two or three times each week for up to 18 weeks
  • Have heart rhythms and blood pressures monitored throughout closely supervised exercise sessions
  • Increase cardiovascular capacity on professional exercise equipment

Participation in this outpatient program requires a written prescription from your doctor. Medicare and most other insurances cover the cost of the post-hospital services, with participants paying a minimal self-pay monthly fee. Please consult your physician or medical plan for eligibility information.

Maintenance Exercise Program

We also offer a maintenance exercise program for those who have completed the post-hospital care program and have achieved a stable level of exercise.
