TMC earns Chest Pain Center accreditation
Tucson Medical Center has earned accreditation as a Chest Pain Center following a comprehensive process conducted by the Society of Chest Pain Centers.
The Society of Chest Pain Centers inaugurated an accreditation process through which they evaluate Chest Pain Centers across the country in order to ensure that these centers meet or exceed quality-of-care measures based on improving the process for the care of the patient with acute-coronary syndrome.
With the new status, patients at TMC can be confident that they will be treated according to best-practice guidelines from American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association, and get education about treatment and prevention of heart disease.
In addition, staff members receive education on signs and symptoms of heart disease, and the resources TMC has to treat patients emergently with chest pain. The international Society of Chest Pain Centers has the goal of eliminating heart disease as the No. 1 world-wide killer by utilizing evidenced-based medicine. Accreditation serves as a tool to bring together diverse medical specialties such as emergency medicine and cardiology; clinicians and administrators; doctors and nurses; lawyers and doctors; architects and quality improvement professionals; and other combinations.
