Post-Operation Instructions for Parents
- After today's treatment under general anesthesia your child should go home and rest. It is not unusual to be drowsy for up to two hours, so please monitor the child's activities carefully during this post-anesthesia time.
- Your child has been given medications which may temporarily impair his coordination and reflexes. Therefore, do not allow him or her to climb on furniture or stairs, swim or ride a bicycle for 12 hours.
- If your child regularly takes medication of any kind, please check with the anesthesiologist or your attending physician before leaving the hospital.
- If your child is nauseated or vomits, give your child liquids to drink such as water, pop or clear juice. Resume a regular diet in 24 hours or as tolerated. If nausea and vomiting persist for more than 24 hours, call your physician.
In addition to these general instructions, your physician will have specific instructions for you. Be sure you understand and follow them.
