Any pregnancy in which the mother or baby is more likely to be sick or have problems is considered high-risk.
Some examples of things that can occur during a pregnancy, turning it into a high-risk situation are:
- Multiples – twins, triplets ….
- Preeclampsia or eclampsia
- Gestational diabetes (For classes: https://www.tmcaz.com/TucsonMedicalCenter/Diabetes_Education)
- Pre-term labor
- History of problems with a past pregnancy
Some chronic health problems of the mother can also make a pregnancy high-risk. Examples include:
High blood pressure
- Heart problems
- Kidney problems
