Neuroscience Center

TMC offers 24/7 Neuro Care

Tucson Medical Center and the Center for Neurosciences provide non-stop neuroscience care, staffed 24 hours a day with neurosurgeons and neurologists. You can rely on the area’s most comprehensive neuroscience department to deliver state-of-the-art neuro care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. That’s why many of Tucson’s top neurosurgeons and neurologists choose to practice here. And why TMC is the first Neuroscience Center of Excellence in Southern Arizona.

TMC’s neuroscience services includes a rapid response stroke team, Parkinson’s care using deep brain stimulation, epilepsy monitoring, a sleep disorder clinic, neurosurgery, and superior brain imaging, using state-of-the-art biplane technology.

24/7 Interventional Neuroradiology Coverage

TMC and Radiology Limited are working together to provide 24-hour-a-day coverage by interventional neuroradiologists for the TMC Emergency Department and the hospital's inpatient units. Radiologists with expertise in diagnostic neuroradiology specialize in diagnosis and treatment of disease processes affecting the brain, head/neck and spine. They provide expert interpretation of CT and MRI images of these areas, and also have extensive experience in myelography, angiography and spinal injection procedures. This coverage is an important component of the hospital's comprehensive stroke care program.

Stroke Care

Tucson Medical Center has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. TMC was the first hospital in Southern Arizona to achieve this designation, which recognizes long-term excellent care for stroke patients.

Tucson Medical Center has also been awarded Primary Stroke Certification from the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP), an independent, nationally recognized accreditation authority. It earned this distinction after HFAP conducted an extensive and objective review of the hospital’s stroke program.

The HFAP stroke certification program has based its standards on evidence from the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Heart/Stroke Association.  These standards are requirements to provide hospitals with the tools for education and support regarding stroke prevention, care and recovery within their communities.

Neuroscience Center of Excellence

Tucson Medical Center is nationally recognized as a Neuroscience Center of Excellence, according to the most recent Neuroscience Center of Excellence Survey, sponsored by Chicago-based NeuStrategy Inc.

The survey, the only one of its kind in the neurosciences, analyzed 150 neuroscience programs, across 41 states. A hospital's overall performance is determined by measuring program progress in four key areas: Clinical and Research Programs, Staff, Facilities & Technology, and Business.
