The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act contains medical privacy regulations that govern the use and release of a patient's protected health information, or PHI.

Under the HIPAA privacy regulations, patients must be informed about how their PHI will be used, and given the opportunity to object to or restrict the use or release of their information.

The HIPAA privacy regulations establish a minimum acceptable threshold for the use and release of a patient's health information. State and federal law, and hospital policies may establish stricter standards.

Tucson Medical Center's Notice of Privacy Practices is available for your review, as part of our commitment to HIPAA compliance.
